The story of the Epiphany tells us, we can choose how we show up where we show up. We can choose to bestow our gifts on the ones who might least expect our generosity. We can let go of trying to control the people and events around us, and instead work on being present to the surprising presence of God in each moment. Even in a week as frustrating as this one.

Blue Christmas and Holding it All
The word becoming flesh was messy, and sorrowful, and frightening and complicated. And Christ’s birth was joyful and holy at the same time. Your flesh, your ability to contain these multitudes is miraculous.
Change your Hearts and Lives
in our translation today, John tells his followers, those snakes, to “produce fruit that shows you have changed your hearts and lives.” That phrase, “change your hearts and lives” that is what our translation uses for the word we’re used to hearing as “repent.”
Advent isn’t about nostalgia
Nostalgia can be powerful. So this season, I want to invite you, to the degree you can, lay the nostalgia aside. Do it for the sake of your mental health, for the sake of those around you. Realize this Christmas isn’t going to be like any Christmas before.
