Jesus worked for, prayed for, organized for the end of the world where the wealthy, the connected, the privileged thrived on the backs of the vulnerable. Jesus wanted that world to end in his day. God wants that world to end in ours.
Jesus looked out on a group of tired, frustrated, oppressed people. He told them, "you get a choice of where to live." You can stay in this tired frustrated place. Or Jesus said, you can follow me...
"The numbers that matter at this point aren’t poll numbers. They're not artificially deflated numbers of total infections, kept low by the lack of tests. We have to let the Dow and S&P 500 not matter right now.
The numbers that matter right now are the numbers of people we can keep from getting sick. The numbers that matter are the number of infections we can prevent from happening all at once. The numbers that matter are the numbers of tests we can make available rapidly, to get our arms around what is actually going on in our community. The numbers that matter are the phone numbers of the people we will call and check in on, and ask how they are doing. Those are the numbers matter right now."
