The way of Jesus has a destination. All our prayer, all our action for justice is directional: it points us to the reign of God.

Keep Awake
As we begin the journey toward Advent, how do we keep awake? The parable of the ten bridesmaids tells us: “Jesus looks for followers who were willing to love God through loving their neighbors. Jesus looks for prepared seekers who are willing to stand sentinel for the coming of the reign of love.”
All Saints
On the Feast of All Saints, we pause to remember those who have led the way in faith. When news of injustice and violence in our world seems overwhelming. When it seems that the worst theologies are shaping policy, are shaping how our society treats one another, remember you are not alone. There are saints of God like Oscar, like Pauli, who have walked this way before.
Against Certainty
There are preachers out there who preach doctrines and positions about which, they say to the congregation, you can be certain. This morning, I am only certain about a handful of things, and I am certain that certainty is getting us into a great deal of trouble.
