The God behind you is greater than the problem in front of you
“The numbers that matter at this point aren’t poll numbers. They’re not artificially deflated numbers of total infections, kept low by the lack of tests. We have to let the Dow and S&P 500 not matter right now.
The numbers that matter right now are the numbers of people we can keep from getting sick. The numbers that matter are the number of infections we can prevent from happening all at once. The numbers that matter are the numbers of tests we can make available rapidly, to get our arms around what is actually going on in our community. The numbers that matter are the phone numbers of the people we will call and check in on, and ask how they are doing. Those are the numbers matter right now.”
Wait Impatiently
This Advent, I am not going to counsel you to be patient. Instead I say, be impatient. Be impatient for the coming of the reign of love. Be impatient for Christ to reign in glory. Let your impatience fuel your work for justice.
Take up your cross
If you choose to take up your cross, you will be in strange company, but good company. If you choose to follow Christ, to take up your cross, you’ll be standing with a wildly diverse band who believe the world can be re-shaped by sacrificial love. With Christ no one suffers alone, and no one suffers in vain.
