Jesus and the Sabbath
Jesus’ teaching, “the sabbath was created for humans; humans weren’t created for the sabbath” goes to the heart of Jesus’ perspective on faith. What he teaches in the first part of the story, he practices in the second. Jesus heals a man with a withered hand, on the sabbath and argues that our faith should always be life-giving. Faith should always be life-giving.
What does it mean to abide?
What does it mean to abide? What if we found ways in these anxious times, in these times when so many of us are just “hanging on,” to, instead, “hang in” there together? What if we chose, instead of grievance, curiosity and embrace?
The Ascension and the Location of God
In order to understand the Ascension, you have to see the pattern. Every time the people want to take Jesus and install him in a throne of power, he escapes. Every time they ask Jesus when he will give them power, he says “you’re missing the point.” Jesus ascends to heaven itself to frustrate all our human desires for control and certainty.
