In order to understand the Ascension, you have to see the pattern. Every time the people want to take Jesus and install him in a throne of power, he escapes. Every time they ask Jesus when he will give them power, he says “you’re missing the point.” Jesus ascends to heaven itself to frustrate all our human desires for control and certainty.

Ascension: Where is God?
What if we trusted God had been lifted up, and that the work of God was to continue to lift up the voices of those who suffer, those who have much to teach? Perhaps then we might be able to better answer the question, “where is God?”
Ascension: Where exactly is Jesus today?
The Ascension gives me reason to say: “If deep in your heart you feel a longing, you’re on the right track. Keep looking for Jesus. Keep looking for God. Seek first the kin-dom.”
