Endings and New Beginning
In my combined sermon and annual report to the parish, I offer reflections on a difficult year, and a set of goals for 2021 filled with hope.
Did Jesus call that woman a…dog?
The question itself makes me deeply uncomfortable.
I never answered the first question, about whether Jesus called this woman a dog. The question itself makes me deeply uncomfortable. But I think that has to be the case.
Because, when you look through the lens of systemic injustice, there is no denying that the Church, that those of us who claim to follow Jesus have contributed to and benefited from the exploitation of women and people of color.
God Given Potential
God invites us at this time, in this place to continue to serve as a parable, a sign of God’s Welcome, of God’s embrace of Diversity, a sign of the Beloved Community God envisions for this world. Jesus is already out there ahead of us, Holy Communion. He’s already passed through the crowd. We have the potential to keep following Christ’s way. Thank you for continuing to allow me the privilege of walking with you.
