What makes a man (or a woman) wise? Wisdom, at least for the magi, comes from listening deeply, staying open to spiritual surprises, and accepting changes to the plan.

When we remember Jesus, it is important to remember the life and times in which he lived. The story of Jesus is a counter-narrative. When Matthew put together this Gospel, he made sure we understood that right from the beginning, Jesus was a threat to the status quo.
Christmas: Love and Understanding
You can only understand what you love. The story of Christmas shows simultaneously our own broken human relationships, and the depth of God’s love. God chose to be born on the edges of society, to a couple living under the fear and stress of occupation.
We need Mary before Christmas
God chooses to be born to someone who knew what it was like to feel a little low. That girl who ran away somehow, through faith, becomes the one who brings God’s presence into the world.
